Video & voice feedback: record testimonials in any survey
Add a record button to any survey. Happy guests leave a short video or voice testimonial (with consent and a gift); unhappy guests tell you privately. Approve clips under Testimonials, then use them in Spotlight.
The Video / voice recorder is a survey question. Put it after your rating question and the survey does the rest: guests who rate well are asked to record a short testimonial (and offered your thank-you gift); guests who rate poorly are asked what went wrong, privately.
Add the question
- Open the survey in the builder and drag Video / voice recorder from the Media section (Free includes 3 recordings a month so you can try it — see plans below).
- Set the mode: video, voice, or let the guest pick.
- Choose who is asked: Everyone (by rating) is the default — set the star rating that switches from “what went wrong” to the testimonial ask (4★ by default). Testimonial only and Private feedback only skip the switch.
- Write the two prompts, the thank-you gift (shown under the record button, e.g. “Show this screen at the bar for a free coffee”), and the consent text guests agree to.
- Save. The question is optional for the guest — a survey without a recording still submits normally.
What the guest sees
A record button with the gift under it. Tapping it opens a full-screen camera (or a microphone view for voice) with the prompt over the frame and a ring counting to the limit. They can retake, then tick consent and choose how their name appears. Recording works in the browser on phones, tablets and laptops — no app.
If the survey is embedded on another site, the embed snippet already allows camera and microphone. On some iPhones the browser refuses the camera inside an embedded frame; the guest is offered a link to open the survey in a new tab.
Run it on a kiosk
Open the survey URL on the tablet with ?kiosk=1 (for example …/surveys/123/456?touchpoint=789&kiosk=1). The screen stays awake, and after a guest finishes, the thank-you screen counts down twenty seconds and resets for the next guest. Pair it with a touchpoint so reports know where the clips came from.
Ask directly: Request a testimonial
Under Testimonials → Request a testimonial, enter a customer’s email. They receive a short survey — a rating and the recorder — built for you on first use as Testimonial request. Edit its prompts and gift in the builder like any other survey.
Approve, then share
Every recording is transcribed and captioned automatically and waits under Testimonials → Needs approval. From there:
- Approve a consented testimonial (a story-format Spotlight post is drafted for you), or Reject it.
- Edit the display name or tidy the transcript that becomes the quote.
- Approved clips show up in Spotlight’s picker under Testimonials, as video or voice tiles on the Feedback Wall and web widget, and as story posts.
Recordings from unhappy guests never appear here as testimonials: they are listed under Feedback clips, and the response itself is in your inbox with the clip playable inline.
Consent, gifts and the rules
- The gift is for recording — never for posting a public review. Everyone is asked the same questions.
- Each clip stores the consent wording the guest agreed to, when, and the name they chose. Only approved, consented testimonials can be shown.
- Public testimonials that were rewarded carry a small “Guest received a thank-you gift” label. You can turn the label text off per question, but we recommend keeping it.
Plans and limits
Every plan has a monthly recording allowance: Free 3 (enough to try it on yourself and a couple of guests), Pro 50, Advanced 200, Enterprise 1,000. When a workspace runs out for the month, the recorder question is simply not shown until the next month; written answers keep working. Recordings are kept for as long as your account is active.
