CUSTOMIZATION TIPS
Restaurant responses on Google benefit from mentioning the dish — it reinforces to future readers what's worth ordering and acts as a soft recommendation. "So glad the [signature dish] was the highlight" is free menu marketing.
If the reviewer mentions a celebration (birthday, anniversary), acknowledge it specifically — "We're so glad we could be part of your anniversary dinner" creates emotional resonance with future readers who are also planning celebrations.
Keep Google responses to 100–150 words max. Yelp and TripAdvisor warrant longer replies; Google's UI truncates longer responses and diners move faster in their research.
Don't mention competitors or other venues — even positively. Keep all responses focused on your experience alone.
How do Google reviews affect a restaurant's Maps ranking?
Google's local ranking algorithm uses three factors: relevance (do you match what they searched?), distance, and prominence (reviews, rating, activity). Review volume, recency, and response rate all contribute to prominence. A restaurant with 200 reviews and a 4.5 rating will typically outrank one with 30 reviews and a 4.9.
Should restaurants respond to Google reviews in multiple languages?
If a reviewer writes in a language other than English, responding in that language is a strong signal of care and effort. Many diners search in their native language and see your responses — a French response to a French reviewer tells future French-speaking visitors that they'll feel welcome.
