Post Purchase Review Request Email Template
Post-purchase review request emails are the highest-converting review generation tactic for e-commerce and product businesses. Sent at the right moment — after confirmed delivery, when satisfaction is at its peak — these emails catch customers in the window before the experience fades. The key difference from a generic review request: this email references the specific product or order, which signals that it's a real person reaching out, not a marketing blast.

WHEN TO USE
Send 5–10 days after confirmed delivery — enough time for the customer to have used the product but not so long that the excitement has faded. Trigger from your Shopify, WooCommerce, or fulfilment system at delivery confirmation. For physical service businesses, use the general review request email template instead.
CUSTOMIZATION TIPS
Reference the specific product they ordered — "How's your [PRODUCT NAME] working out?" vs "How was your order?" The product-specific subject line gets significantly higher open rates because it doesn't read like a marketing email.
Include a private feedback option (reply to this email) — this intercepts unhappy customers before they write a public review and dramatically improves your average star rating over time.
For Shopify: use the order confirmation data to personalise both the product name and the customer name. Most email platforms (Klaviyo, Mailchimp) have order-level personalisation tokens for this.
Don't mention star ratings in the email — asking for a "5-star review" violates Google, Amazon, and most platform guidelines. Ask for an "honest review" only.
How long after delivery should I send the review request?
5–10 days is the sweet spot for most physical products. Long enough that the customer has used it; short enough that the experience is still vivid. For software or digital products, 7–14 days after first use (not purchase) works better. For perishables or consumables, 2–3 days after delivery.
Can I include the review request in the delivery confirmation email?
Technically yes, but it typically converts poorly because the customer hasn't received or used the product yet. A separate, triggered email after delivery consistently outperforms an included prompt in the confirmation email.
What review platform should I link to for e-commerce?
Depends on your sales channel. If you sell on Amazon, an Amazon review is most valuable. For Shopify stores, Google is the best long-term investment (drives local and direct search). For B2B products, G2 or Capterra. For consumer goods sold direct, Google + Trustpilot is a strong combination.
